carnival games 18-19

THE QUARRY LANE SCHOOL: hs engineering

Objective:

Using the Design Process, develop a Carnival Game, similar to those used on boardwalks, county fairs or amusement parks. The intention is not to develop a unique carnival game as much as it is to design and engineer one. Purpose, intention, precedents, research, intended audience and application will be much more critical. As part of the project, the topics of Design, Digital Fabrication and Arduino will be further developed and called upon.

Constraints:

Over the course of the semester your team will be focused on developing a single product which will require careful attention to detail and workmanship. Proper utilization of the Design Process is a must for projects to be successful. Games should be engaging enough to entertain students / young adults. The final building material will likely be some sort of plywood, however, exceptions can be made for teams that provide enough evidence and support to justify their variation. The game will likely be stored and transported many times over the course of its life, so it must be structurally sound enough to withstand a reasonable amount of abuse. This is in addition to the normal wear and tear that will occur while the game is being played. Games should maintain its integrity for many years.

The entirety of the design process must be documented logically and completely. Design documentation will take the form of weekly desk crits and/or presentations.

Projects must be designed in CAD and Digitally Fabricated. Use of the CNC Router and 3D Printer is a requirement. Special consideration will be given to teams integrating Arduinos and electronics, however, keep in mind that its application will be securitized accordingly. Quality will be highly valued.
