Objective:

Using the Design Process, develop a piece of Flat Pack Furniture. The broad design challenge is to develop a piece of furniture that is functional, structural, ergonomic, aesthetically charming and easily disassembles. A primary focus of this project revolves around the need to design and develop detailed reusable connections.

Constraints:

Over the course of the semester your team will be focused on developing a single product which will require careful attention to detail and workmanship. Proper utilization of the Design Process is a must for projects to be successful. Additionally:

   • Flat Pack Furniture must be able to assemble and disassemble indefinitely

   • Assembly and disassembly process should take less than 15 mins

   • Disassembled furniture should pack down to approximately 25% of its assembled volume

   • Assembled furniture must be structurally sound for its intended use

The entirety of the design process must be documented logically and completely. Design documentation will take the form of weekly desk crits and/or presentations.

Projects must be designed in CAD and Digitally Fabricated. Use of the CNC Router, 3D Printer and Laser Cutter should be incorporated appropriately. Quality will be highly valued.
